Later That Day, Across Town

Coming up with a masterplan to show Braylynn what the future could look like for us if she let me in was harder than I expected for it to be. After doing my homework, I was able to get Braylynn’s schedule. Unashamedly, I had to use my resources and call Angelica. Once I let her know the situation between Braylynn and I, she was eager to jump in, letting me know since Braylynn stayed in her and Brantley’s business, she would happily jump in hers.

Angelica let me know the girls had gymnastics practice and were supposed to go with their dad after, but like always, he called to say something had come up instead. Since he flaked out, Braylynn was going to take them to the movies after she took them home to change so they would still have something to do.

She didn’t talk too much about her daughter’s father, but I knew enough about him to know he was inconsistent at best. Lucky for him, I was ready to take up the responsibilities he was taking for granted.

From A to Z, I had everything planned, and thanks to Angelica, all I needed for them to do was get in the car, and as I pulled into her driveway with perfect timing on my side, I knew it wasn’t going to be Hennessy and Havana who would be the ones hard to convince.

Giving me a death stare before I had a chance to put my car in park, I was already ready for her attitude. Judging from her body language, she was telling the girls to wait in the car.

A few seconds after her exchange with the twins, who were tucked away in her truck, she was walking in my direction.

“Kortez, are you going to make a habit out of pulling up where your presence hasn’t been requested?”

“Hey, sexy. I missed you too,” I countered, ignoring her disrespectful greeting, watching in amusement as she fought to hide the flattered grin forcing its way onto her naturally perfect face.

As a man who had a deep appreciation for a beautiful woman, the peanut butter beauty standing before me, with her arms folded across her chest, giving her all to make sure she came off as pissed off as she possibly could, took my breath away.

“How many ways do I have to ignore you before you go on about your business? Don’t make me call North Brooke Port PD on you. You know they don’t play when it comes to calls of distress from this neighborhood,” she stated with a pointed look and an accompanying finger, pulling my attention away from her beauty and to her suburban neighborhood.

“Can you stop running your mouth long enough to be a lady?”

“And that’s where you have me misunderstood. I am a lady who doesn’t hold her tongue, and if you think a woman has to keep her mouth closed just to be considered a lady, then you need to grow up and be a man.
