Letting go of negativity allows you to focus on the things that matter. Oftentimes, your negativity is the thing holding you back from discovering what you’re good at and finding happiness. A great example of this is Emily Blunt. Emily is now a successful and revered actress with an illustrious career. But her acting journey began with a crippling stutter that traumatized her for years. Emily struggled with a stutter in her early teen years that she was often made fun of and embarrassed about. Kids would laugh at her and some teachers would shout at her for the way she spoke.

One teacher, however, noticed that Emily was quite good at doing accents and weird voices. This teacher also noticed that when Emily was doing the accents and voices, her stutter disappeared. Emily was encouraged to audition for the school play as a means to do all of her voices and work on her stutter, for which she got the part and fell in love with acting. Emily Blunt has since worked with some of the biggest names in the acting world, getting one of her first gigs alongside Dame Judi Dench when she was 18.

Emily was lucky that she had a teacher to encourage her as a child, but her story shows that when you let go of the negativity that has plagued you, possibilities and opportunities open up. Emily let go of the insecurity she felt from her stutter and stopped caring about what others thought of her. She found what she was passionate about and focused all her attention and energy on mastering her craft. You will never know what kind of doors may be open to you when you are stuck in your own negativity. Negativity can hamper your creativity. David Lynch, one of the most prolific film directors, says that negativity is the enemy of creativity. Emily might not have found her passion if she let her negativity kill her creativity. Your creativity must be protected, regardless of your profession or passions.
