To calculate the average level of computer skills for female and male students separately, the Descriptives function is used again.

Once the instructions have been followed correctly, the mean values of the variable “comptot” will appear in the output window (see Table 3.2). From this table, it is clear that the mean level of computer skills among male students is lower (7.7857) compared with that of female students (8.6154).

Splitting the file into males and females will remain effective for further analysis. However, for the assignments in the next section this is not needed. It is possible to undo the split by checking the option Analyze all cases, do no create groups in the “Split File” dialog window as follows:
