Coyote: Chapter 11

Life at the compound experienced a surge of excitement after the argument with Scarlet. It wasn’t due to anything happening to her or her siblings. It had to be with Blade and Cassia. The day after Scarlet stormed out, Cassia had gone into labor and hours later delivered a beautiful baby girl, which they decided to name Trinity.

Like it was with every birth, we all seemed to descend upon the poor hospital and took over a room, so we could await the arrival of the newest Warrior. Even if everything seemed to be fine, we couldn’t help but worry. These women and the babies were our family. I think deep down we thought our collective presence would prevent something terrible happening to either mother and child. Logical, no, but it was us.

She was shown to all of us in small groups an hour or so after her birth. Cassia looked tired but so happy and Blade, well, we wouldn’t be getting his feet on the ground any time soon. He was utterly captivated and no one could blame him. Seeing yet another baby made me think of children of my own. Children I wanted to have with Bandit.

Yes, we couldn’t have them the traditional way with both of us contributing DNA to a single child, but we might be able to find a surrogate, and one willing to carry a baby more than once for us. If we could, this would allow us each to have a natural child, although, if not possible, it wasn’t the end of the world. We would love any child we adopted just as much, I was sure. I knew that we weren’t ready for that step yet, but it was there at the back of my mind. Imagining this being us one day and having our Warrior family doing this for us made me dream.

This happy event helped to ease the disappointment that when I went to work on Monday, Scarlet wouldn’t talk to me. She did her work and stayed as far away from me as possible. She was obviously still upset about Saturday. Or maybe she was pissed that her denial of our help had been ignored. We had someone outside the house at their times to go to work. The look we got from Sabrina was a half-smile. Spencer nodded, and I thought I saw relief on his face. Scarlet glared at us.

At the end of the day, I was the one to follow her home. Again, there was no one I saw who noticeably paid attention to her. However, there were a lot of cars on the road that went the same way as we did, and a few of them looked familiar from Friday. However, that didn’t make them guilty of following her. When I got home to the clubhouse, I was informed by Bandit that no one seemed to have followed Spence to work. We couldn’t have him followed to all his patients’ houses. Sabrina was under the watchful gaze of Gunner.
