Kendall and Poor Billy crossed the Connecticut state line, riding north on I-95 in their Dodge Intrepid, two hours away from their destination. They were headed toward two cities—first, New Haven and then Hartford to drop off fifteen kilos each in both cities. Connecticut was a goldmine for Bad Girl. A local hustler in New Haven named Dallas was one of their biggest clients, and a big shot in Hartford named Cheo was another profitable customer for Luca’s organization. In estimate, both cities generated close to a quarter of a million dollars each in one month, paying fifteen thousand a ki.

Kendall and Poor Billy were two traffickers for Luca’s organization. They were highly recommended by Kool-Aid. Both men were loyal to the gun-toting killer and were put on the payroll months ago. Connecticut became one of their frequent trips, where they established a somewhat trustworthy bond with Dallas and Cheo.

It was a chilly evening and Kendall was driving his prized car. He made sure to do the speed limit and both men had their seatbelts fastened, and everything was legit on the car. Kool-Aid warned them not to be stupid when transporting thirty kilos of heroin concealed in secret compartments in the car across state lines.

Kendall nodded his head to a Kanye West track and smoked a Newport. He was wide awake and focused on the road. However, Poor Billy had been falling asleep during the hours-long ride. His head was pressed against the glass window; he was snoring, wrapped up in his winter coat, arms folded across his chest, looking dead to the world. The traffic on I-95 was sparse and they hadn’t seen a state trooper for miles. He wasn’t complaining.

A few miles after passing Stamford, Kendall noticed he was low on gas and he needed to refuel. He turned off the next exit and navigated his car through a small town called Darien, a relatively small community on Connecticut’s “Gold Coast” with a population of twenty thousand. The town was quiet and still and most businesses had closed hours ago.

Kendall searched for the nearest gas station. He soon found an Exxon in the heart of the town, five miles away from the highway. He pulled up to refuel and get some snacks to munch on. Stepping out of the car and slamming the door shut, he awakened Poor Billy. Poor Billy yawned and looked dazed for a minute, noticing that they had stopped to get some gas.

“Yo, where we at?” Poor Billy said. “Damn, you couldn’t wake a nigga up?”

Kendall walked to the gas attendant to pay for the pump while Poor Billy got out of the car to stretch his legs. He hated stopping in small towns when they were transporting drugs. He had the fear of being stopped by some redneck cop somewhere and being lynched by some crackers. Poor Billy was as black as they come, looking like tar with cornrows, but his eyes were as white as snow. He was nicknamed Poor Billy
