CHAPTER
THIRTEEN
DOMINIC
It was our last day in Toronto, and I didnât want to go back to reality. The past week with Hannah had been amazing, and I was worried everyday life would sully the fairy tale we had been creating.
I sat and watched other swimmers as Hannah laid out next to me on the beach in her white and blue bikini from the Fourth of July party. That suit alone brought back great memories, though she would scold me that my favorite memories included her wearing nothing at all.
The way we were together had me wondering if everyone was like this when they first started out or if we were the exception because of our friendship before we decided to take the next step. Before, I had little interest in seeing a girl more than once, and I definitely didnât take anyone on a date. I never wanted anything to interfere with work or the family business.
âDo you think we will always be this way?â Hannah asked as though she was reading my mind.
âWhy would we be any different?â
âBecause weâre different,â she said simply.
âAre we?â
My question caused her to move up on her elbows and look up at me. âI think we are. I mean, we were always close, but something definitely changed between us.â She paused to consider what she wanted to say next. âUnless this is how you are with all the girls.â
âYour jealousy is showing,â I teased.
âWell?â
âHan, you know me better than anyone. You know that I donât go on dates. Youâre my exception and the only one I would want to give the world to.â
Hannah sat up next to me, pulling her knees to her chest. She crossed her arms over the top of her knees and rested her cheek on her arm, looking over at me through her sunglasses. âDo you worry this will fade as we get back to our lives in L.A.?
âIt wonât if we donât let it,â I answered simply, hiding the fact that I had her worry.
âThere is still a side of you that I donât know, Dom.â My back stiffened at her statement, knowing where it was going. âWould you be able to open up about that part of you? Let me in completely?â
âYou donât want to know that part of me, Hannah.â
âI do, though.â
âYou saw all you need to know the night Mark broke into your house,â I said, wanting her to drop the subject. We were having an amazing mini vacation, and talking about that part of me would ruin everything.
âThat was only a glimpse,â she stated, trying to urge me to talk.
âThatâs all you get, kitten,â I said, leaning back and closing my eyes, letting her know I was done talking about it.
I felt her move beside me, and when I peeked over, she was on her belly with her feet in the air. I closed my eyes again and felt her finger trace one of the tattoos on my arm. âI donât remember you telling me the story behind this one.
