"Come on Josh, we're already running late, so hurry and come down for breakfast!" I yell at my son for the third time. It's bad enough that we had both overslept on a Tuesday morning, which is especially terrible for me because I have to be in court the next morning and I have barely gone through the materials for the case I'm taking on.
Josh finally drags his feet down and I pour him a bowl of cereal, adding someone milk so he can eat.
"Can I have more cereal Mom?" Josh asks to my surprise. A few months ago, he wouldn't even finish the amount of cereal on his plate, and now it's not enough for him. The rate at which he is growing and changing is scary to me.
I add some more cereal on his plate and finish my coffee as I rush to put on my shoes. Thankfully, Josh finishes his breakfast quickly and we soon head out.
"How's school going?" I ask Josh as I drive him to school. We barely even talk these days as I'm always returning late or in my room working whenever I return early. I'm glad he does his homework on his own without my help, but I still miss bonding with my son.
"School is great, I'm thinking of joining the basketball team, but the coach says he'll have to see how well I play before he lets me on the team." Josh replies, much to my delight. Josh isn't a social butterfly so he has a had time participating in extra curricular activities at school.
"I'm really happy to hear that Josh," I say, as we turn into the school's driveway. My eyes drift to the teachers standing outside the different grades and waiting for their students. Flashbacks of Ross standing outside Josh's class building and how much I used to look forward to seeing him every morning.
"How's Lily? You guys are finally talking to each other right?" I ask and Josh shrugs.
"Somewhat, she has her friends now and I have mine, although we work on class presentations and project together, we don't talk much." He says and before I can say anything else, he's out of the car and running towards the school building.
I turn the car around as I head to the office, hoping there isn't so much traffic on the highway to delay me even further now.
Luckily, I beat traffic and pull into the firm's garage at exactly 8:00 am. I let out a huge sigh as I get out of the car, a bunch of files in my hands. The files for this case are much more than I had expected, and now I'm regretting not studying them on time.
I try to balance the files in my hands so I can use my leg to kick my car door close. The floor seems slippery, so I struggle to maintain balance and slip as soon as I kick the door. I don't know which I hear first, the loud bang
