The FaceTime

“You know the biggest events are coming up, Eve—the fight and the after-fight party. You know these are the events of the who is who among the billionaire VIPs in this world, so we have to be there. I think we owe this to Khalid and Gayle about finding out who murdered them, don’t you think?”

“Yes, of course,” I replied, as I stared out the window. “But it’s also the cops’ jobs to find out as well. We were supposed to be having a great time up here, and now it’s been nothing but stress and anxiety and pure hell, and two people we know were murdered and this is somehow connected to us ? I still don’t know what the hell the connection is, Dray, and you still haven’t told me what you think it is.”

He sighed. “Because I wanna be right about it. Like I told you, I believe Khalid and Gayle were killed because someone is trying to get to us.”

“And so you think it was the men who tried to abduct you?” I asked.

“Yeah, I think that’s very possible. Now that we know about this, I just don’t think they were after my motorcycle after all, even though I can’t be a hundred percent sure due to the cost of it.”

I sighed as I still stared out the window while we were being driven home from the station. “I just want all of this shit to be over with. I feel like we’re going around in a perpetual circle with all of this. I miss my baby.”

“I miss him, too, Eve. And Stormy as well.”

“And I miss my little guy,” Leon said with a smile as he looked back at us.

Dray and I nodded with a smile. He held on to my hand and kissed it.

“It’s gonna be okay, baby. Like with a million things that has happened to us since we’ve met, we can tell Layton and Stormy about all of this since this has been one of the first vacations we’ve taken together since they were born,” Dray said. He looked at his phone. “It’s my parents on FaceTime, and I know what this is about.”

I grinned. “Yeah, I know.”

“Might as well get this over with,” he said with a grin, and started the session. “What’s up, Mom and Dad. How are the two of you?”

“Just fine, Drayton. And how are you and Evelyn?” Miriam said, as her and Clayton sat on their family room sofa.

“She’s fine. She’s right here,” Dray replied with a smile.

“Hello, Miriam and Clayton,” I said with a smile.

“Hello, dear,” they replied.

“Drayton, you know what we want to talk to you and Evelyn about—do you not?” Miriam asked.

Dray grinned. “Yeah, we know. It’s all good, though.”

Clayton cleared his throat. “You know you were supposed to ask for our approval before the two of you went on that show, regardless of whether or not the show is dedicated to this family.”
