Chapter 16

Ash

Ash called Kylie again. After five rings, it went to voicemail. Again. He had called her several times in the past four hours, and it was now after eight o’clock at night. He had planned on calling her much earlier in the day, but after he and Beau went and rescued the dog and realized how severe her injuries were, they’d gone straight to an emergency vet office to get her treated for her wounds. After that, they’d gone to a pet store and loaded up with a bunch of supplies so she could stay with Beau until they figured out what to do with her.

The dog was adorable. A reddish-colored Pitbull that was underweight and as sweet as could be. She had growled at them as they’d approached her, but once Beau touched her gently, she melted into him with her tail between her legs. It was obvious that she was scared, but with each gentle touch that Beau and Ash gave her, she seemed to understand that they weren’t going to hurt her.

His irritation grew as he left another voicemail for Kylie, telling her to call him back. He had a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach, and it scared the hell out of him. Grabbing his truck keys, Ash left his house. If she had a man over at her house with her, the man better start praying because Ash would rip him in two. She was his, and even though she didn’t know it yet, he did. Kylie would never be with another man again.

It took him longer than he would have liked as he maneuvered around traffic in the busy streets of Seattle. It was a beautiful evening out. The perfect kind of night to take his little girl to the park and push her on the swings as she kicked her legs and giggled. Yeah, that was definitely something to add to his list of things to do with Kylie.

Parking his truck, Ash noticed that her car wasn’t in her assigned parking space. He frowned and jogged up to her apartment door, knocking heavily. He waited several minutes and then knocked again but got no answer.

Fuck.

Where the hell was she?

He didn’t know her well enough yet to know if she had a hobby or something where she couldn’t answer her phone. Maybe she was at a friend’s house or visiting her mom. She had mentioned that she was close to her mom.

Pulling out his phone, Ash typed up a text.

Ash: I just want to know where you are and that you’re safe. Text or call me back, little girl.

He stared at the screen, hoping to see the three little dots appear in the message string, but after several minutes, he sighed and closed the app.

Maybe he could see if Colt could track her phone just by her phone number. He doubted it, but his brother was smart. Climbing back into his truck, Ash drove toward his neighborhood. It was convenient having his brothers live so close to him.
