Chapter Twenty-eight

“I’m here!” Tony yelled as he entered Mrs. Scott’s living room. “Who is ready to go to the hospital to take her body armor off?”

“That would be me!” Dupree squealed, her eyes twinkled with happiness.

“Today your cast comes off. What a blessing!” Miss Angie said to Dupree. “You were able to use those crutches when the back allowed, but I know you need a break from that wheelchair.”

“And you won’t have to constantly use the hairdryer to blow cool air into my cast to relieve the itching! Thank you, Lord!” Dupree exclaimed.

“No, not anymore, baby.” Miss Angie’s voice trembled with emotion. “After today they will be gone.”

“To God be the glory!” Aunt Madge mumbled as she rocked from side to side in her wheelchair, her eyes closed in reverence and praise.

Dupree grinned happily as she looked at the faces beaming down on her. Today would be a milestone in her recovery and a testament to her victory.
