Chapter 8
KALIYAH HALO
Two hours laterâ¦
Freshly showered and ready for bed, I couldnât possibly sleep until Houston made it home. Brook had picked Roby up a little while ago, and he didnât give me the impression that anything was wrong. I did notice the wound on his forehead, but he brushed it off as nothing.
I paced the living room floor, telling myself that everything was fine with Houston. Iâd just spent the last half-hour promising Champ that I was okay. While being involved in a shootout wasnât a girlâs everyday norm, I did have savage niggas around me. Shit was bound to happen.
Sighing, I ran my fingers through my curls. I just needed Houston to walk through the door so that I could lay eyes on him. Between Houston, Sin, Zoo, and Brooklyn whoever had been shooting at us tonight surely fucked with the wrong niggas.
Not only would the shooters have to deal with the McQueen family, but the Smith men, and my brothers as well. Why anyone felt the need to come for them was crazy anyway.
I heard Houstonâs garage door opening, signaling that he was here. Anxious to see him, I went into the kitchen to meet him at the garage door. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that he was unhurt.
Although he looked angry, Houston closed the door, then swept me off of my feet. My legs wrapped around his waist as his lips met mine. Contradictory to what his body language said, Houston kissed me sweetly.
I ran my fingers across his frown lines, smoothing them out.
âWhat do you need,â I whispered, wanting to help him calm down.
He pecked my lips again. âIâm good, my behbeh. Iâma hop in the shower, then we can crash.â Houston carried me all the way to the bedroom.
He deposited me on the bed, while he went into the bathroom. I sat there contemplating if I should leave him alone. One thing about Houston, when he was angry, it was best to let him cool off. Heâd never been violent, but the undercurrent of savagery was there. It didnât scare me. Iâd learned to be his peace, not his lighter fluid.
Turning down the lights, I grabbed the remote to put something on the flatscreen television. I had never been in Houstonâs bed, but the bitch was comfortable as fuck. Leaning back against the mountain of pillows he had on it, I shuffled through several channels before I settled on ESPN. It was highlights of the previous daysâ events. I made myself comfortable as I turned the television all the way down, and just watched the action.
I was damn near dozing off when Houston strutted back into the room. His fresh male scent filled the room. He was naked from the waste up, with ball shorts riding low on his hips. The tattoos littered all over his neck, chest, and arms had him looking like the fucking savage he was. One tattoo in particular caught my eye, making me gasp. My nameâ¦was inked on his glorious skin, right along his right rib cage.
