I rolled over in my bed, running my hand up and down my small belly. I was well rested, seeing as though I didn’t come out of the house for days. I was able to switch my job sites to the Best Buy on 88th street. With my great work ethic and police report against Tiana I told them working where she knew would be a threat. They happily obliged, letting me know I’d be starting on Monday. That gave me two more days to relax and figure out my life.

My vibrating phone made me sit up fully. It was an unknown number and I figured it was probably Tiana still playing on my phone or maybe Ty, being I had him blocked as well.

“Hello,” I cleared my throat.

“Yo, is that my baby you having or Ty’s?” I instantly laughed into the line.

“Monica don’t fuckin’ play with me, you need to be real with me!”

Ross’s voice was deep and held a lot of anger. I figured he was released since he wasn’t calling from a jail line.

“Ross please leave me alone, I have never slept with Ty in my life.” I snapped at him.

“So why the fuck you ain’t say that shit before, I’m thinking you pregnant by my godson, so is it mine?”

“Ross, I don’t owe you an answer, but since you want to be on my line threatening me and shit why not get your wife in check muthafucka!” I ended the call. I wished it was the early two thousand so I could slam the phone down in aggravation. When he called back, I immediately hit the end button. I pulled up my AT&T app and changed my number. I wasn’t going to be harassed by anyone in his family. Since I was now up, I handled my hygiene while preparing to go pamper myself after my appointment. I was now well into my fourth, almost fifth month. I could potentially find out what I was having.

Excited and nervous was how I felt sitting on the hospital bed. The doctor ran the probe over my stomach and I jumped at the movements. My mother was standing beside me with the biggest smile plastered on her face. Shocked was an understatement to how I reacted when I mentioned my appointment to her and she happily invited herself. Growing up we were close, and got along great. It wasn’t until I decided to wander off that our relationship shifted or maybe when I started becoming my own woman.

“So can you see what she’s having?” She asked, looking at the ultrasound machine. The doctor nodded her head. I know my mother prayed I had a son and honestly so did I.

“It’s a boy,” I nearly jumped off the bed in excitement.

I laid there with a wide smile for the rest of the appointment. When I was given my next appointment me and my mother went to lunch. She couldn’t stop talking about names for my son. I wasn’t thinking about names, I was thinking about if I would tell Ross what I was having.
