Turn 8 was very brief. Although the phalangite unit (5) decided to escape the Persian missilry by the novel expedient of charging the beleaguered mercenary hoplites (unit 13) in the rear, the hypaspists (unit 6) were now in a position to exit the board. This necessitated the removal of two Persian units: Darius selected the Kardakes (unit 12) and the Paphlagonians (unit 16). However, with only two units now remaining on the battlefield, the Persians had to concede defeat. Our wargaming Alexander had managed to emulate his conquering predecessor.
