Recall that the issue comes about because Aristotle wants to maintain a parallelism between his account of perception and his account of intellection. When we intuit, or conceptually grasp essences , our experience is best described perhaps as an intellectual seeming, an intellectual perception in our mind’s eye. As we have previously pointed out this idea has been defended in recent years, by the Yale philosopher George Bealer (1996). The contrasting view to the idea that intuitions are like perceptions is that they are like beliefs or judgements, or propensities to believe or propensities to judge (Williamson 2007). Bealer asks us to consider, for instance two Müller-Lyer lines .
