CHAPTER 6

“Come on, sparrow. Drink the mint tea. Trust me. It will settle your stomach enough so we can get something in you. You and the babies need the sustenance.”

“Are you fucking kidding me with that shit? I’ve been puking for the past three hours. What part of that makes you think that I would want to put anything into my mouth?” Ansh lifted his head slightly from where he was lying across the couch, resting on Cody’s lap. Ansh flopped back down with an irritated sigh, pulling the damp cloth I’d given him back across his eyes.

Cody and I shared an exasperated glance. We loved our little diva, but sometimes he really needed someone to take him in hand. Not that I would ever have the balls to say something like that out loud—at least not if I wanted to keep said balls.

Trying another tactic, I walked over and knelt in front of the couch. Taking Ansh’s foot in hand, I began to rub and knead the arch, hoping to soothe away some of his tension. I couldn’t imagine what he was going through, halfway through his three-month pregnancy.

The fact that it was even possible for an omega to grow a tiny person in such a short time span had never been anything less than mind-boggling to me. And if I needed to massage every square inch of my mate’s body for the next six weeks, I would do it.

Along with doing whatever it took to get him to fucking eat again. The morning sickness had started to ebb, but this week it had come back with a vengeance. If the poor guy didn’t have raging heartburn, then he was busy puking up whatever he’d managed to eat or drink. On a few truly glorious days, he’d been fortunate enough to experience both.

While I was massaging his feet, there was a knock at the door. Cody spoke softly as he eased up from the couch, while gently lowering Ansh’s head onto a pillow to replace his lap. “I’ll get that. You carry on here.”

Moments later, I heard the voices of Jun and Tau. Ansh moved the towel from his eyes again, lifting his head just enough to shoot me a disdainful glare.

“I specifically told you both I didn’t want to see a doctor, because I didn’t feel it’s necessary for shifters. So, tell me… Why do I feel like you decided to bring the doctor to me?”

“Because that’s exactly what I did, the moment that I heard through the group grapevine about that stupid, hippie-style idea of yours. Are you fucking kidding me with that shit? What if you had a problem that could have been prevented, but your babies died because you were too big of a wuss to face your fears?” Jun spoke confidently, in a firm voice as he came walking into the room. “But since my mate is a doctor, I see no reason why he can’t treat you. And don’t give me any shit either.
