Chapter Seventeen

Lawlor and Bai’lee pulled up to his parents’ house in time to see Aquil speeding down the block.

“Was that Aquil?” Bai’lee asked.

“Yeah,” he muttered.

The whole ride to his parents’ house, he’d basically ignored Bai’lee. He felt some type of way that she didn’t feel comfortable enough to allow him to take care of her.

“Listen, babe,” Bai’lee said, touching Lawlor’s arm to stop him from getting out of the car. “I’ll move in with you.”

“I don’t want you to move in if you don’t want to, Bai’lee.”

“I want to, but we’re going to split the cost of the bills.”

“My mother never had to pay a bill in her life. I’m not going to allow my girl to pay a bill either. I’m the man of the house. I will be able to take care of you. I want your money to be your money to do as your please.”

“Law…”

“I know why your apprehensive. You’re probably thinking I will do the same thing I did to Zuri to you, but the truth is, Zuri violated me in the worst way. I did everything I needed to do as man and father. I learned to love her again, and with that love, I provided a two-parent household for our son. Zuri didn’t want for anything. All I got in return was her bringing random niggas in and out of the house I shared with her while my son was there. On top of her disrespecting me, she wasn’t being a mother to Logan. There was no reason for me to help support her.”

“I believe you when you say our situation will not end like you and Zuri’s.”

“That’s because it’s not going to end, but if you need me to put everything in your name to make you feel more comfortable, it’s done. I will have my lawyers change everything to your name in the morning,” Lawlor said, and Bai’lee smiled.

“Thank you.” She leaned over and passionately kissed him.

“I love you,” Law said as they both got out of the car and walked hand to hand to his parents’ house where they heard yelling.

“I love you too.”

“Fuck him!” Big L roared. “That nigga can’t see I kept that bitch away for the greater good. That’s his fault.”

“What the hell is going on here?” Lawlor asked as he and Bai’lee walked into his parent’s house.

Big L and Bonnie were going back and forth with each other, while Zuri sat in the corner and watched the drama continue to unfold.

“Lawrence, you were wrong. You should have told him that you were his uncle, and you shouldn’t have drugged that woman.”

“So, you’re okay with that nigga disrespecting you and saying you’re not his mother?”

“I’m not his mother!” Bonnie yelled the harsh truth. Big L secrets had done more harm than good.

“It was our blood, sweat, and tears that raised him to be the man he is today.”

“That is true, but that boy had a right to know who he truly is and where he comes from. Not some fucked up reality that his mother sold him to a complete stranger.
