A. L.:All the political initiatives of the Kremlin clearly demonstrate that Putin and his entourage want to re-create a Soviet-style empire.

Unfortunately, none of them really knows Soviet history. They live in some sort of virtual reality and believe in myths they have invented themselves. They faithfully believe that the Soviet Union collapsed because of the subversive activities by the CIA and other Western secret services.

If they ever read old Politburo documents, they would know that the communist regime was doomed. In the 1980s the Soviet leaders already had no idea where to get bread and meat for the population. The social unrest was as high in the USSR as in Poland. The only difference was that industrial strikes in Poland were better organised and co-ordinated. But Putin and his entourage do not care to learn their own history.

Lenin and Stalin created their regime in full accordance with a book of a German idiot who lived in Britain a hundred years before. If Putin and Chekists had any strategic thinking, if they knew anything about the casual links, they would not repeat Lenin’s and Stalin’s mistakes. But Putin, like his Soviet predecessors, has some perverted idea of the state’s greatness. They have persuaded themselves that such greatness must be based on their own and other nations’ fear of the terrible supreme power.

They really believe they can make Russia a great power by imposing the cult of ‘the strong state’. In reality, they are trying to turn our country into a monster, which can exist only by murdering millions of people and drinking their blood. This is not an exaggeration – the example of Chechnya, which is drown in blood and has become a common grave for hundreds of thousands of their victims, shows what these maniacs in power are capable of. We should not deceit ourselves with an illusion that they would not dare to do in Russia what they did in Chechnya. After all, these were tens of thousands of Russians whom they buried under the ruins of bombed Grozny for a start.

The changes which Putin and his regime are introducing in Russia are gradual, but that does not make them less serious. Sinister developments accelerate, merge into a single flow and, if the society remains apathetic, may reach the point of no return. That point is not reached as yet, so we still have hope and ability to save the country from collapse and doom.

However, if Putin is elected for another term, the disasters expecting Russia will be very grave. Anything will be possible, including an uncontrollable disintegration of the country, possibly with numerous bloody conflicts.

The problem is that there will be no real election in Russia, the FSB will not allow it. They will play a performance called ‘presidential elections’, but that will not be a fair popular vote, and the result will be decided in advance.
