CHAPTER 9

On Sunday morning, I dragged myself to the bathroom while still half asleep. With my hair a mess and my eyes barely open, I opened the door yawning. But the sight that greeted me was like a splash of cold water. There in front of me was a huge naked man who looked as if he'd been working out all his life in the gym!

I shrieked and slammed the door shut.

A second later, the door opened and One's handsome face peeked out. "I'm sorry I forgot to lock the door," he said. From how he smelled, I figured he'd just taken a bath. Smells delicious, I thought without warning. Then I silently reprimanded myself for thinking such.

I faced him with a smile, now fully awake. "It's no problem," I answered, trying to sound nonchalant.

"I'm done. You can come in now," he invited.

"No!" I said louder than I'd intended. I tried to calm myself. "It's okay. Take your time. There's no work today, anyway."

I marched back to my room silently, afraid I might accidentally say or do something stupid. Behind my closed bedroom door, I literally pounded myself on the head. "I've got to get used to this guy sharing my space now," I whispered to myself. In my mind, I could imagine my friend Alice swooning if she knew about this setup. She'd probably say, "If I didn't have a boyfriend, I'd jump at the chance of sharing an apartment with a gorgeous alien!"

During breakfast, I began to calm down. One and I exchanged an easygoing banter, and I was beginning to see what great company he could be when he wasn't so serious.

Rob dropped by later that day. To my relief, One was as fast as ever. I don’t know where he hid, but I could sense him watching us. I felt conscious so I made up an excuse about just wanting to sleep all day and get enough rest to prepare for the tedious week of work to come.

"He's in love with you," One stated after he'd left.

"And what makes you such an expert on love?" I questioned. "I thought love was unheard of on your planet."

"I'm observant," he said. "I've been observing people here."

"Fine," I brushed him off.

"You don't seem to love him back," he commented.

"You've observed that too, I suppose?" I retorted with sarcasm.

He nodded, leaning back on the kitchen counter and grinning. "He's not your type, I believe."

"Oh, so we've known each other a couple of days, spent time together for a day and a half, and now you know my type already?"

His grin melted away as his eyes seemed to drill a hole into mine. He sauntered toward the sofa where I was sitting. My heart started trouncing and I felt my body beginning to flare up as he came nearer. He licked his lips and leaned forward. "You like men who seem rough and gentle at the same time," he whispered. "You like men who seem a bit mysterious and unpredictable, who catch you off-guard and yet can make you feel special.
