CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

The penthouse was pin-drop quiet by the time Alex made it home late that night. He went to Jordan’s room downstairs first, to make sure he was okay. As usual, Jordan was fast asleep with his cell phone on his stomach and his eyeglasses half-on and half-off his face.

Alex smiled, pushed away from the doorjamb, and walked up to Jordan’s bed. He removed the glasses off of his handsome brown face, removed the cell phone from off of his stomach, and placed both on the nightstand. And then he stood there staring down at Jordan.

He welled up inside thinking about what a blessing that young man was in his life. He never dreamed he could be a good father to anybody. He failed so spectacularly when he tried before.

But Jordan gave him hope. He even had Alex and Kari going to church more regularly now, because Jordan sang in the choir. Church, Alex thought with a smile. Although he always believed in God, he was never a particularly religious man. But thanks to Jordan, he was going to church regularly now.

And he was about to be a father to child number four. Sometimes he felt overwhelmed by the prospect of being responsible for yet another young life. But then he came home and saw Jordan’s peaceful face, and he knew all would be well. Jordan would see to it. He had in that young man, he was convinced, a worthy heir. And he wasn’t even his blood.

But as soon as he left Jordan’s room and began making his way down the back hall to go up the back staircase, he could hear his blood, in the form of Oz Drakos, snoring in one of the guest bedrooms. And Alex smiled and shook his head. That man spent more nights at Alex and Kari’s than he did at his own apartment just below the penthouse. Considering he had a woman now, it was certainly odd.

But that was Oz. If there was a box somebody was trying to put him in, he would bust out of it on principle alone. That was why Alex, knowing his brother all too well, left him to his own devices and headed upstairs.

Kari was asleep, too, when Alex made it to their bedroom. He had heard how hard she was still working, and he was pissed by it, but Kari was a lot like Oz. Stubborn as a mule too. But that mule was going to heed, he thought as he made his way into the bathroom. But that was a fight for another day. Alex was bone tired.

He undressed and showered and brushed quickly. By the time he walked his naked body around the bed, Kari had turned on her side, but was still asleep. He got in bed, and under the covers, behind her.

When he realized that, in her turning onto her side, her nightgown had lifted slightly and exposed half of her bare butt, he lifted it further and wedged his dick against her.
