Maxton ignored the throbbing in his head, watching through his watery, partially closed eye as two burly, uniformed security officers elbowed their way into the room, with one guard slapping a zip tie around the wrists of the man who’d been trapping them all in the suite. Brady helped the guard drag him away while Sharrod and Mike helped the other guard subdue Vic and Money J.

He could feel the slight tremor in her body as he held her and hear the rapid breaths she took. She was afraid but refused to let it show on her stony face. She was a trooper, and he respected that. But the fact remained that she shouldn’t have been subjected to such base behavior, especially not in her place of work.

It was the peak of immaturity. They were grown men, carrying on a pissing contest in the middle of the workday, like a bunch of bored youngsters. This is precisely why I don’t do that macho bravado bullshit. It’s all fun and games until somebody gets hurt. And as irked as he was by the shiner he’d gotten, he knew he’d have been even more pissed if Teagan was the one nursing the bruise.

As the so-called guests were dragged out, cursing, Maxton finally released his hold on Teagan. She flopped onto her chair, dropping her head in her hands.

“What the hell was that?” Maxton couldn’t remember the last time he’d been so pissed. “I think you two owe Teagan an apology for this bullshit.”

Rick, righting his clothing, shook his head. “Apparently, it was very bad judgment on my part. I apologize, Teagan.”

It was quiet for a moment, so Maxton eyed Swagg.

Swagg, wiping a bit of blood from his lower lip, offered a solemn nod. “I’m sorry about this. I’m so freakin’ embarrassed.”

“Y’all brought way too much excitement into my studio.” Her voice was shaky but determined. “See that you don’t do it again. And I hope you know whatever damage was done will be billed to you and your artist.” Teagan fought hard to keep the anger out of her voice. “I’m going to suspend recording for now, pending a final decision from the CEO.”

“Got it,” Rick said as he and Swagg departed.

Left alone with Teagan, Maxton let out a pent-up breath. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine, thanks to you.” She stroked her fingertips along his jawline.

Her touch soothed the ache in his head. “I wasn’t about to let that jackass hit you.”

“Chivalry is alive and well, I see.” She gifted him with a soft kiss on the cheek. “I’m more concerned about you. That eye is about four shades of purple.” She stood up. “Let me get you some ice, and then I’m taking you to urgent care.”

He shook his head. “I don’t want you to trouble yourself. Sharrod can take me.”

“Did you take a fist to the eye for Sharrod?” She looked at him pointedly.

“No.”

“Then, hush, and let me do this for you.” She spun and marched out of the room.
