Create a Business You Can Use
The annals of business success are filled with such stories of people who started companies or invented products because they themselves needed them. Looking at a problem in a new way, asking yourself if there’s some other way to solve this problem, and then finding ways to turn that problem into an opportunity are skills that you already possess. They’re intrinsic to the Hunter personality.
One of the most powerful ways to cultivate and strengthen your Hunter skills is to make use of daily “quiet time.” I was first introduced to this when I learned Transcendental Meditation back in 1968, when the Beatles were studying with the Maharishi—it was all the rage among teenagers. There are many ways and techniques for meditation: these range from reciting a rosary to simply sitting in a chair in the office with the door closed for fifteen minutes each day and “purposefully daydreaming.”
During these moments of quiet time, ideas bubble to the surface of the mind in an unending stream. Sometimes we get lost on “thought trains” and wander off in strange directions. Wholly unexpected ideas pop up, and new ways to look at things are suddenly apparent.
Because Hunters have been told all their lives that they’re lazy or procrastinators, I’ve found that many are initially resistant to this idea of “doing nothing.” So, instead, think of it as an important “job,” and assign time for it every day. Tell those around you that it’s your work time and you’re not to be disturbed, or do it early in the morning or later in the evening (or both).
