TWO MAMAS

After very little sleep and so much anxiety, we headed back to the hospital early in the morning to spend the day with Mama One and Amelia. I couldn’t eat a thing. My stomach was an absolute wreck at the thought of leaving Texas without Amelia. It was very much a possibility; that is the reality for so many families in the adoption process. And if Mama One had decided not to sign those papers, I know she would have been an amazing mama to Amelia. All day, we got to know her more, helped care for Amelia, and just waited. Amelia had to be forty-eight hours old before termination of parental rights could be signed and she could be released from the hospital. So, this tiny little human spent her first forty-eight hours being cared for by her two mamas. I will always tell her how special that was. We shared feeding her, changing her, and comforting her when she cried. Sam was a rock star at keeping me focused and calm, and reminding me to just enjoy these moments, whatever the following days may bring. And so we loved on this baby girl as much as we could until we knew what the outcome would be.
