ABRAHAM’S DECEPTION

“Hey, Dad,” Max called as he and Molly looked out the window of the SUV. “Is that Scotts Bluff up ahead?”

“It sure is. Why don’t we drive to the top this time instead of hiking and spend some time on the overlook trails? That way we will still have time to make it to Wyoming to see Fort Laramie, Register Cliff, and the Guernsey Ruts where there are still ruts up to five feet deep in some places today.”

“That sounds like a great idea, but what is Register Cliff?” asked Molly.

Molly’s mom answered, “Register Cliff was a popular campsite for the pioneers, and was about a day’s travel from Fort Laramie. The pioneers who passed through here would carve their names in the sandstone cliff, registering that they had made it this far on the Oregon Trail.”

“Hey, that’s pretty cool,” replied Max. “Can you still see their names today?”

“Yes, you can,” replied Max’s Aunt Kathy. “Although some of the signatures have eroded away, there are many that you can still see. You can also see some of the remnants of the trails, along with some of the unknown pioneers’ graves.”

“Now why don’t you and Molly pull out God’s map as we head up to the top of Scotts Bluff and find out what is happening with Abraham?”

“Great idea,” Molly replied. “Let’s pray.”
