Not every website listed on USA.gov is a government site. The USA.gov site may link to a nongovernment website that contains information of use to individuals who are looking for government information.

6. You can also find information via the USA.gov portal by using its search engine. From any page on the USA.gov site, locate the Search box at the top, type a search term such as genealogy research, and click the Search button (see Figure 7-2).

The USA.gov site uses the Bing search engine (www.bing.com) as its vertical index for government websites. A vertical index limits websites used by the search engine to only those that fit a specific subject matter.
