The next morning

“Mr. Wickham? Really?” Georgiana gasped while she and Lizzy wandered through the garden.

Darcy was asleep in his chamber, under the watchful eye of Lizzy’s mother, who’d insisted on staying with him so that Georgiana and Lizzy, who had been taking turns sitting at his side, could get some air.

“It seems that way. I hope you do not mind that your brother told me the truth about what occurred between the two of you,” Lizzy said gently, not wanting to upset the young girl. To her relief, Georgiana shook her head. Her wispy blonde hair was confined in a bun at the back of her head and her light-blue gown complemented her fare skin. She looked up ahead and the sun grazed her face, bathing her in its glow. She couldn’t help but realize how alike Georgiana and her brother looked in this light. When she faced her, she shrugged.
