Until the mysterious stranger from last night appeared, I was beating myself up for being so stupid. I hate horseback riding, but I still felt the need to get on that damn horse so I’d be ready for the event tonight. Carrie-Ann was originally going to ride in as the Queen of Halloween, but she decided since I was the one putting the whole event together that she’d let me do it as a little thank you.

I should have taken the stablehand’s comments to heart. He warned me there was something in the air today, that the animals had all been acting weird. But he kept attributing it to the weird falling star from the other day, so I dismissed it as superstitious nonsense. God knows there’s plenty of strange stuff out there, but I never paid mind to any of it.

Tat saving me from that stupid horse was everything my fantasies were made of and more. So of course when he starts feeling me up to make sure I’m all in one piece, I take it the wrong way and give him a big ol’ smooch. Those lips of his were asking for it.

I try not to pay attention to the gasp that runs through our impromptu audience. Try to lose myself to the feel of my giant savior against me. His arms come up to hold my legs around him, and I let out a whimper for how much I need to stretch my legs to get around him. I never felt particularly small until this moment, wrapped around this man as thick as a tree.

His lips move with mine and our tongues slide against each other. His hand comes up to weave into my hair, causing me to gasp with pleasure. This is utter fantasy. I have been transported from reality into some blissful romance. Things like this just don’t happen in real life.

As my eyes open and close with each kiss, I catch the sheen of pink across his skin. He must have some sort of terrible burn. Maybe he saved people from a fire or something, I wouldn’t put it past him with how readily he saved me from that horse.

Someone clears their throat. “That’s a hell of a thank you, Kitty. When’s the wedding?”

I blush. “Ah, oh gosh.”

What will people think of me for just kissing a stranger like that?

“It’s not like that, we know each other, this is—” I start, only just realizing I cannot introduce this man as Tat considering he doesn’t even know why I call him that.

“Xensu vra Koreshi,” my savior says.

“What is that? Japanese or something? He don’t look Japanese,” one of the stablehands says.

“Russian maybe?” another offers.

“I just call him X,” I lie, pretending at way more familiarity than we have. “I know, it’s a heck of a name.”

“How long you known this fella, Kitty? Last time I asked about you—”

Xensu grips me tighter, and I feel a dissatisfied grunt pass through him, as if he’s jealous at the idea of these men wondering about me.
