Sin

After I finished talking with Chase, I called Heaven. I wanted to clear up any questions I had in my mind before I decided what to do with her. I had killed females before over betrayals, so if it came to that, I had to be ready to pull the trigger on her just like I would anybody else. I grabbed my Glock out of the glove compartment, then walked to CoCo’s door and rang the bell. Tre answered. He stood on the other side with his pants sagging below his waist. His bottom row of teeth was completely gold. “Who you here for?” he asked, not once breaking from his ice grill.

“It don’t matter,” I said, walking past him and into the house. “I’m here. CoCo?”

I called out for her as the door closed behind me. “Oh, what up, Sin?” she said, coming around the corner. “I didn’t know you was comin’ through. You aight?”

“I’m good. Yo, where is Heaven at? She upstairs?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“I just need to holla at her for a minute.”

“Aight. Well, gon’ up there. She should still be woke.”

Tre walked from behind me and wrapped his arms around my sister. I hated that fuckboy, but my sister swore up and down he was aight. I didn’t trust him, though. The way he looked at me whenever I came around was enough for me to want to drive my fist right into his fucking face. The only reason he was still around was because CoCo begged me not to do anything to him. He put his arm around her shoulder and then they disappeared down the hallway. Seconds later, I heard her room door shut, so I headed upstairs to see Heaven.

I knocked twice and waited for her to answer. “Come in.” I followed her voice into the room as she lay underneath the covers on her bed. “Sin? I wasn’t expecting to see you.”

I closed the door behind me, then sat on the corner of her bed. “Yeah. I figured I would just come through and see how you were doing, you know? Make sure that gunshot wound is healing good.”

She lifted her sleeve. A small piece of flesh puffed up like a caterpillar where the bullet struck. It was brown and almost blended in with the rest of her complexion. “It’s healing pretty good. I mean, I hate the fact that I got this ugly ass scar on my fucking arm, but other than that, I’m straight.” She pulled her sleeve back down. “But, I know you didn’t come all the way over here for me to tell you what you already knew.”

“I already knew?”

“Yeah. You’ve gotten shot before, so you know how long it’s gonna take to heal and what it will look like already.” She sat up in her bed and pressed her back against the headboard. “So, are you gonna keep bullshitting, or are you gonna tell me what’s up?”

I smiled. I loved the way she could speak so blunt to me. It was something a man like me needed in his life – a woman not afraid to put her man in check.
