The implant, if that's what it was, had been buried deep in Caelan's right arm underneath the bicep but not, perhaps, attacked to the bone. At least it was not attached currently. Shahnaz could make it move when he pressed hard enough. Caelan flinched a little when Shahnaz dug his fingers in and found the edge of it but xe didn't protest. Such an odd placement. On the surface made sense--easy to insert and remove later on. Buried that deeply it had to have been implanted with actual surgery.
"This scar," Shahnaz finally asked after doing everything he could with fingers, "where did it come from?"
Caelan ran xir fingers over the long, thin scar that traced the edge of xir bicep on the outer edge of xir arm. "Honestly, I have no clue. I don't even remember getting a cut there. Hell, it's not even in a dangerous spot, on the outside of my bicep. I might not have noticed it happening."
"Dig your fingers in here," Shahnaz said, pressing right where the implant was.
He waited as Caelan did so. Caelan frowned, pressed harder and then scowled as they viciously dug into xir arm.
"What is that?" Caelan asked. "That can't be an implant. They're on the surface. Makes 'em easier to take out again."
"Agreed," Shahnaz said.
He stood and waved for Caelan to follow him. And then silently thanked Allah that Caelan pulled xir shirt on again. Ignoring Caelan's highly attractive little breasts had taken most of his effort. Caelan's abs had been impossible to ignore, especially the way xir waist nipped in over the hips and the lean cut of xir belly.
At least Caelan preferred to be fully clothed all the time. Shahnaz would crash them into a gas giant if Caelan wandered around half-clothed the way popular dramas depicted most Gensyn. Of course, popular dramas painted Gensyn as impossible mixes of masculine and feminine with full beards, lush full breasts and hips so wide as to be physically impossible. The reality of Caelan's lean, beautiful body was far better than those fevered imaginations.
Which he really needed to stop dwelling on.
"You got a med bay hidden in here?" Caelan asked.
"But of course," Shahnaz said, grinning at the wry tone of Caelan's voice.
"No, really?"
Shahnaz laughed and waved Caelan into the galley. "Well, of a sort. There's a small scanner that I installed and I have a tiny surgical bot that I've never needed to use but yes, it just barely qualifies as a medical bay."
Caelan snickered at him, xir eyes relieved rather than amused. Understandable. As much as Shahnaz had done to modify the Blessed Prayer he had never bothered with adding a surgery. Why would he? Traveling alone had never warranted one and he would have had to give up one of the storage bays or bunks for it.
Now he rather wished that he did have one. The scanner showed a definite implant, one coated with something that it couldn't recognize. It had been, clearly, surgically implanted along the bone. There were signs that it had been attached to the bone and then rejected by Caelan's body.
