CHAPTER TWELVE

The speed limit didn’t mean a damn thing to Zy as she zoomed in and out of traffic cussing everyone out who blew at her. Her anxiety was on a million and her heart had yet to slow. She was mixed between scared and pissed. Heavy on the pissed.

As she pulled up to Zoesph’s house, she damn near hit Loyal’s car because all she saw was red as he sat on the steps waiting for her. Jumping out the car, Zy charged at him hitting with multiple blows.

“Are you out of your fuckin’ mind, nigga! I could kill you right here and right now with the way I’m feeling. She was supposed to be at daycare, not a fuckin’ studio!” she screamed with tears cascading down her face.

“I fucked up, Zy.” Loyal’s voice was different, but she’d heard the tone before. In her kitchen when he allowed a piece of his wall to fall— The first time he showed his vulnerability.

Zy didn’t give a fuck about his vulnerability right now though. “That’s all you have to say, I fucked up, Zy?” she mocked doing a horrible impression of him.

His locs hung in his face hiding the somber look in his eyes. He didn’t know what else to say so he stood there quiet.

Punching him in the chest, she yelled, “Say something! Explain to me why you thought it was a good idea to take her out of daycare and parade my baby to a muthafuckin’ studio?”

“Our, Zy. She’s ours,” he corrected her taking every punch and slap she landed.

Her eyes glared. “No, nigga! She’s mine.” Zy slapped her chest. “Zoe is mine!”

“Stop crying, baby. Please don’t cry.” He was quick to comfort her because seeing her doing anything but smiling pained him.

“No!” She slapped his hand away. “No, you don’t get to sweet talk me down from my hurt.”

“Zy’Yah!” Zoesph came out the door with a mean mug. “That’s enough!”

“It’s not enough! My baby could’ve died,” she spoke through her cries before the thought alone crippled her.

The sound of her weeping tore Loyal’s heart apart. “Zy,” he soothed, pulling her into his arms. “I never want anything to happen to my little baby.”

“But you can’t stop it! Especially not when you’re running the streets as heavy as you do.” She yanked out of his embrace, stomping up the steps.

Zoesph tried to grab her arm, yet she snatched away from him too. “Zy, don’t do this.” He knew how much Loyal meant to Zoe and vice versa.

“She’s mine, and I get to do whatever the fuck I want.” The sound of another car pulling up pulled her attention. Kissing her teeth, she pushed the door open. “I don’t have time for this nigga, either.”

Brian stepped out the car with a smug grin on his face. He’d heard about the shooting. Heard how Zoe was there and decided to pull up when he saw her car. “That’s why you gotta be careful about who you let around our daughter.”

Zoesph sneered, “Get the fuck from round here.
