I brush Zora’s hair off her face as she lies on my chest. We’ve both settled down, had a bath, and now we lie together in our bliss as a pair.

Now, with the two of us together like this, it seems that all of the pretension is gone. Zora has slipped off into sleep, but I don’t mind it.

Prince Rah, King Abrax wishes to see you in his office.

“Thank you, computer,” I say. I remain for a moment, then ease out from Zora. Still, she stirs.

As I get out of bed, I hear her voice. “Rah?”

I pat the bed. “It’s okay," I say. "I have to attend to some royal business. Rest. I’ll return.”

Zora exhales and says, “Mmm, okay.”

And when I look back at her, she closes her eyes, nuzzles in her crossed arms, and smiles.

Zora looks good in this bed. I can’t wait to see her like this in our bed, back at our keep.

I rush to dress and head to my brother’s office.

It’s strange to see him behind my father’s old desk again.

He belongs, but as has become customary, his presence there reminds me of our father’s absence.

I haven’t given lots of thought to losing my father, as I still mourn my mother. Grieving them both at once is almost too much to bear.

Being the oldest, I spent the most time with my parents, especially with my father. I spent a significant amount of time with him in an effort to ease the pain of my brother’s absence.

And now, this same brother sits where my father always wanted him to sit.

“What can I do for you, brother?” I ask King Abrax.

“I thought you should know I’ve provided Hufu with quarters in the palace. I say it as a warning. I don’t want him to catch you off guard.”

I recline on a settee. The same settee I used to lounge on when taking council from my father. “I suppose that’s good. It will be easier to keep an eye on him.”

I debate whether I should tell my brother my plan. “How long must we pretend that we trust our uncle?” I ask my brother.

“That, Rah, is a good question,” Abrax says. “Perhaps until after the coronation ceremony.”

I angle one leg. My muscles feel so good after copulating with Zora.

“That is much too long,” I say in reference to Hufu’s stay, “but I understand why it is necessary.”

“I want to settle things with my father’s brother before the baby is born, Rah. Speaking of the baby,” Abrax says, standing and leaning on the edge of his desk, “I’ve been meaning to ask you something.”

“Ask me,” I say, swinging my legs around and sitting up.

By the tone of Abrax’s voice, I can tell that this must be an important question.

Abrax adjusts his waistband. “I’d like you and Zora to be the second guardians for our child.”

I raise my eyebrows. “Brother?”

“Please, Rah. Don’t say no.”

I smirk. “I would never.”

“Good then,” Abrax says, moving to his seat behind his desk again. “And don’t tell the other brothers I said this, but you’re my favorite oldest brother.
