Chapter 6

“Why don’t we let the lawyer handle it? Isn’t that his job?” Beth’s gaze shifted between her husband, her grandson, and Helen.

Simm controlled his tone. He’d prefer to pace the room, wave his arms, and shout at the top of his lungs, but his grandmother didn’t deserve histrionics. No one did. “He’s handling it, but I have the most at stake. I won’t sit back and leave my life in someone else’s hands.”

“I don’t see any harm in Simm asking a few questions,” John said.

Simm sent his grandfather a grateful look.

“Be careful not to get in trouble. You don’t want the police breathing down your neck again,” Helen added.

“Don’t worry. Like Granddad said, I’ll only ask a few questions. And I’ll start with finding those guys from Sherbrooke.”

“The police looked into them,” his grandmother said.

“According to Mooney, yes. But they already had their eyes on me. How closely did they really look?”

“What will you do when you find them?” Beth asked.

Simm shrugged. “Ask a few questions.”
