There had to have been some retrograde shit going on because the people around me were losing their damn minds. I landed in L.A. two days ago to find out that two of my investment deals hadn’t gone through. The crazy thing about it was that it wasn’t due to the money not being available but someone on my end had fucked up the paperwork. Two six figure deals down the drain all because a lack of communication was mind blowing to me. I paid people to cover my end when I wasn’t around and it seemed like people were failing me left and right. I felt like I was running Incompetent Inc. around this bitch.

“Have you spoken to the person who handles your day to day affairs when you’re in the wind? Or better yet, have you spoken to your accountant?” My mother questioned. She had summoned me to her place for brunch but I knew her well enough to know that this wasn’t her wanting to catch up with me. It was more like her wanting to grill me and be in my business.

“Yes, I have and they’re being dealt with accordingly for dropping the ball.” I used the Tiffany chinaware to cut into my eggs benedict and put a fork full in my mouth.

“Are you gonna take some responsibility for the shit show you created? Because from the looks of it, you’re all over the place. Your lack of ability to multitask is showing and I know you’re better than that. You’re an Owens.” I hated to say it but I knew I got my narcissistic qualities from my mother. It was nothing for her to tear you down and build you back up in the same breathe.

“Ma, I got a lot of shit going on and your comments regarding shit you don’t really know enough about doesn’t make my plate any lighter.”

“I know what I see. I don’t have to be in the thick of things to know that your shit is out of control. You got a wife out here whose not on her wifely duties, an old rival out for the crown, and now your legal business is having a hiccup. By all means, stop me when I start saying something wrong.” She picked up her napkin to wipe her mouth and leaned back in her chair.

“All of that is being taken care of.” My phone vibrated on the table and I leaned over to pick it up.

“I don’t know why you insist on keeping Koryn around anyway. Especially when you have a compatible mate in Taryn. She’s seen you in your good, bad, and downright dirty moments. She loves your dirty draws.” If it was one thing my mother was going to do, it was make Taryn out to be the greatest thing to have ever walked into my life.
