The sob that exploded from Guinevere was wet and unattractive as she clutched Arthur’s chest.

“I am, I swear.” Her words tripped over one another. “I promise, I will do everything in my power to prove I’m telling the truth, that I am trying to save you.”

“Guin.” Arthur kissed her silent, and her lips met his with overwhelming relief. “This never happens again,” he said as they pulled apart, tears still streaming down his face. “We don’t lie, we don’t hide things from one another. Do you understand me? Of course, I have to forgive you now. Lord knows what I would do if your life was threatened. I understand why you felt your actions were justified, but this is the last time you withhold a secret this damning from me. I am your husband, and if you can’t trust me with the truth, then something between us is broken.”

“Never again, I promise.” She kissed him softly, her fingers digging into a scar on his chest. “As long as you’re still my husband?”

“I should bend you over my knee,” his voice was angry as he studied her. “Gods, do I want to teach you a lesson. You almost killed me, Guinevere, but yes, I am still your husband. I’ve always been and always will be yours. Even if you left, I would remain yours.”

“I am never leaving you,” she swore, and he saw the truth in her eyes, the ferocity. “I am yours, and you are mine. Never say you’ll let me go because you’re wrong. You do own me. My heart is yours. It has been since the moment I caught sight of you.”

“If what you are telling me is true, you just signed Lancelot’s death sentence.” He looked at her to gauge her reaction to his threat, but all he saw was desire. It warmed his chest that it was what she wanted, that she wasn’t trying to protect the knight. “I will fucking kill him for this.”

“And I will help.” The challenge in her eyes returned, and even though her actions had driven a dagger through his heart, Arthur loved her to the point of ruin. However irresponsible her actions had been, she had thrown herself at a wolf to save his life. It was a brilliant plan, despite driving him to madness, but without her, he would have been oblivious. Oh, foolish Lancelot, how he had underestimated Guinevere.

“So, I haven’t lost you?” Arthur hoisted her further into his lap, refusing to let her go. He had underestimated her, too.

“You will never lose me.” She kissed his chest. “People sometimes fear you because of your size. Women recoil at your scars and your gruff demeanor, and you worry you aren’t enough. Arthur, I realize I made you doubt my love, but I need you to listen to me. I don’t want anyone else, and you never frightened me. I never told you, but the moment I laid my eyes on you, I knew you were it for me. Everything about you was what I wanted.
