Pampered Princesses

JOANNA

“I’m so glad you called, JoJo. I can’t remember the last time I got pampered like this,” Davi said from her massage table.

“Girl, me either. It’s been so hectic at the hospital that I’ve been working nonstop.” Keith, my masseuse, began to knead my upper back, and I felt like I was in heaven. It was the day of Joseph’s surprise dinner, and I needed to unwind before the event—before I was face-to-face with him .

“How is wedding planning going?” I asked her. I knew that she wanted a destination wedding, but we hadn’t talked much about the details.

“I honestly haven’t thought much about it. I like the Jamaica idea, but we must ensure everyone has passports.”

“It’s gonna be so nice; I can hardly wait,” I said, smiling into my pillow. I was so happy that my son and Davi had crossed paths again. They were perfect for each other.

“Me either. What about you, though, JoJo? Why haven’t you settled down with someone yet? I know it isn’t because no one has tried, because you’re beautiful. You literally look twenty-one.”

My thoughts immediately traveled to Josiah. Davi was right. Several guys had tried to be the man in my life, but I was just never interested. Over the last few years, I had been casually dating, but I never let it get too far. Deep down, I knew it was because my heart never let go of Josiah. I had never met anyone who made me feel the way he used to.

“Twenty-one? Girl, please, I wish. I don’t know, though… I guess I just haven’t met the one.”

“Or maybe you have met the one but lost touch,” Davi said.

I jerked my head up and looked over at Davi, only to find her looking at me too. She had a small, knowing smile on her face that I did my best to ignore.

“I don’t know who that would be,” I said nonchalantly.

Davi’s face softened.

“JoJo… I saw your face when Joseph mentioned Josiah. Call me crazy, but I think you might still have a thing for him.”

I looked at Davi silently for a moment, contemplating whether or not I wanted to be honest. After a few minutes, I sighed and put my head back down; this time, I turned my head to the side so that I was facing Davi.

“I love him,” I said simply.

She laid her head down, too, and grinned.

“I knew it.”

After a short pause, she followed up with, “He loves you, too.”

I laughed sarcastically. “I highly doubt that. It’s been twenty-five years since our teenage love affair. I’m probably the last thing on his mind.”

“Don’t be so sure. He and Joseph kinda had an argument about it. He told Joseph that if you gave him a chance, he was coming after you,” Davi said with a smirk.

I bucked my eyes. “No he did not, Davi.”

“Yes, he did. He meant it too. The question is, when he does come, what are you gonna do about it?”

I sat there silently, processing her words.
