On our way to the encampment, we encounter a migrant from Honduras who walks into a gas station where our Samaritan group is fueling up our vehicles. He asks for a ride to Tucson. Clearly he is in trouble. He has been walking for seven days, most of the time alone. During the past two days he has seen two dead bodies in the desert. In the past twenty-four hours he has been followed by a pack of coyotes—the four-legged variety. He is dehydrated, limping from blisters on his feet and traumatized. He looks to be about twenty years old. The young Honduran traveler joins our group and we take him with us to the picnic lunch, where he is immediately hydrated and fed.
