“Can this traffic get any worse?” I cut my eyes irritated to the max. After all the planning I had done, I was late to my brother’s party due to a wardrobe malfunction. We were an hour behind and was still forty-five minutes out. Not to mention, I was the host of the event. And to make matters even worse, I hadn’t heard from Los since earlier in the day. I didn’t press the issue since I knew he had business to handle. But I was half expecting him to communicate a little better since he couldn’t be here physically. Pushing those thoughts into the back of my mind, I looked out at all the brake lights.

“If I could move the cars for you, I would, sis,” Butch spoke from the front seat.

“I know you would.” I peered over at Nasi. “How are you feeling, baby girl?”

“Conflicted,” she stated plainly. She hadn’t said much since we’d left my house, and I knew her mind had traveled off course. She refused to answer any of Rah’s calls to the point where he was now blowing up my and Butch’s phones demanding to speak with her. Of course I’d respected her wishes and not answered, but Butch was on his own time. I didn’t know what the hell took place out in LA after she left, but I just hoped that Rah came correct once he touched back down.

“Nas, you know my boy would never do anything to hurt you intentionally. And with all the shit going on out here, it ain’t the right time to be ignoring him,” Butch preached to Nasi through the rearview mirror.

“Butch, there ain’t one excuse in the world that could make me see this situation any other way. Rah and I have an understanding to keep an open line of communication at all times. And unless that man went into the booth and recorded that song after I left this morning, he’s been sitting on this shit for some time now. So again, there’s no excuse. I won’t take his calls, because there’s nothing he can say to me over the phone he can’t say to my face.” She peered out the window with teary eyes.

“And she’s entitled to that, Butch.” I nudged his shoulder. “Let’s just all try to have a good time tonight and deal with the heavy shit when Rah and Los are back in the morning.” Nobody responded, so I guessed they agreed. The rest of the car ride was filled with music and thick clouds of smoke.

By the time we pulled up to the mini mansion, the place was packed with luxury vehicles lining the circular driveway.

“We’re here, gang,” Butch announced as the car came to a stop.

“Good. I need a drink.” Nasi spoke up as she exited the car and went ahead of us. Butch tossed the keys to the valet guy before leading me into the house.

My nerves were all over the place as reality set in that this moment was bigger than a party.
