The pool party was lit, and there were so many people there and more still coming. Prayer had finally pulled herself out of her slump and got cute. It wasn’t fair to Jackie and Psalm the way she was acting, so she pushed Tone to the far back of her mind and began to enjoy herself.

“You cool?” Psalm asked, walking up as she sat pretty with Jackie and their newfound friend, Lina.

Prayer loved how attentive Psalm was. He always made sure she was good. She definitely wasn’t getting back into another relationship any time soon, but when she was ready, Psalm would be at the top of her list.

“I’m good, you alright?”

“Yeah, come take a walk with me,” he said, pulling her away from her girls.

The two walked to the far back of the yard, it was so peaceful out there.

“I hope I’m showing you a good time.”

“What? You’ve been the perfect gentlemen since before we got here. I appreciate you, I needed this vacation.”

“What else you need, Prayer?” he asked, catching her off guard.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, what are your needs, your wants, your plan?”

Not a single soul had ever asked her such a deep question, and she honestly didn’t know how to respond. That was a really good question, What does Prayer want and need? She was so used to looking out for everyone else, she never even thought about what she wanted.

“I honestly don’t know what I need right now. I’m still trying to figure this whole adulthood thing out. As far as my wants, I just want to make sure my mom and brother are ok. My plan is to take a few business classes in the fall and open my own lash studio one day.”

“Sounds like you have it all figured out to me, you just need a good support system behind you.”

She began to notice that any time she held a conversation with Psalm, he sent a message in between the lines.

“What do you want from me?” she asked as he chuckled and sipped his drink.

He acted like a man three times his age. She often feared that her maturity level wasn’t high enough to meet his.

“I don’t want anything from you, but I do want you. I like you, Prayer, and if you let me, I can mold you into a woman that no other bitch on this earth can touch.”

His words sent chills down her spine, and she didn’t know if it was the liquor giving her courage or what, but she leaned in and kissed his lips. The way he locked eyes with her, told her that he could be a gift or a curse.

“I want you too, Psalm,” she finally admitted.

“That’s all good, but you’re not ready yet.”

“I am,” she lied. Prayer barely knew whether she was coming or going, yet she was standing there telling that man that she was ready for him. It was definitely the vibes and liquor that was fueling her, but it felt so right.
