Glory

At Jhia’s doctor’s appointment, Jhia and I sat side by side silently. I felt she’d been off all morning, but I didn’t speak on it. One thing about Jhia, the truth was going to come out one way or the other. I’d just have to see if the truth would be placed in my lap or if she’d coming running for my help like usual.

I didn’t have to wait long because the second Demonte walked into the room, a smile spread across her face.

“Hey,” she stood from her seat.

“Hey, what’s up?” Demonte gave her a hug.

“How you doing, Ms. Glory?”

“Hi,” I said plainly before rolling my eyes.

I had long moved past my ill feelings for him. Once he found out of her real age, he moved appropriately. The excitement Jhia had just shown set my radar off that one of them, or the both of them were on some sneaky shit.

“Jhia Daniels?” The nurse stepped outside of the door.

I stood ready to go back with them and Jhia stopped me.

“I think I’ll be ok with just Demonte.” She gave him a glance and small smile.

“Unfortunately, you’re still a minor. As your guardian, I’m refusing that. So come on.” I let the two of them into the back.

They were trippin’. I don’t know if that was Demonte or Jhia’s idea, but they now knew not to try that again. I was trying to let her navigate all of this on her own and just monitor but I was about to be all in her face and all in her business.

“You can come in after she changes.” I shut the door in Demonte’s face.

“He’s already seen me naked.” Jhia rolled her eyes at me. “It makes more sense for him to be in here than you,” she mumbled.

“That’s how we got here, cause he was seeing you naked. I’m not sure what y’all think y’all have planned but let me remind you, he’s eighteen, you’re a minor. That’s statutory rape.”

“He didn’t rape me!”

“He doesn’t have to. There’s a law about adults having sex with minors. I am your guardian now—”

“My mother is back in the picture,” she smirked at me.

“Yeah, until they find out that she’s selling pussy for a living. Like I was saying, I am your guardian now. My only responsibility is to make sure I’m making the right decisions for you. Please, don’t make me send his ass out the picture because I will. I expect him to take care of his responsibilities but by no means will you be in a relationship with him. If that’s what you thought, you might as well get that out of your head now.”

There was a knock at the door. “Are you dressed?” the doctor asked.

“Yes,” Jhia responded.

I finally looked at her and she was on the verge of tears. I wasn’t moved. She was going to learn to stop playing with me.

The doctor walked in, and Jhia peeked out before she shut it fully.

“Was there a man outside the door?” she asked.
