Georgiana nodded and released a breath she’d been holding. “He will be so disappointed with me,” she said. “But the letter is perfect. Thank you for taking on that task. I am so sorry for pulling you into this situation.”

Elizabeth dismissed her words with a wave of her hand. “You have nothing to be sorry for,” she said. “I am happy to help. Now, I will find a messenger to take it at once.”

Georgiana insisted Elizabeth take her guineas to pay for the messenger. “Tell him there will be more for him if he brings my brother back within the next three days,” she said. “I will tell George I am ill. I can only pray Fitzwilliam will arrive soon.”
