SEEING our little baby on the ultrasound last week had eased a lot of my worries, and ever since then, Andrew and I had been getting along great. Just the way we used to. And he was over the moon when the genetic test came back and said she was healthy and… yup, we were having a girl. He definitely gloated over that one.

He was still doing his best to “take care of me,” but it didn’t annoy me anymore. I wasn’t sure whether to chalk that up to a momentary hormonal mood swing, or if all I needed was to get our friendship back on track.

“Okay, pizza’s in the oven and the timer is set.” Andrew put his phone down on the table, the timer app on display. He was getting much better about maneuvering with his crutches.

“Great, I’m starving for once.” I felt like I could probably eat the entire pizza on my own. Hopefully Andrew wouldn’t mind if I ate more than my fair share. I had a couple of weeks of not being able to eat to catch up on. “Your mom is right, though. We’re going to need to start doing some more cooking. I don’t think raising a kid on frozen pizza is the best idea.”

“True, but we’ve still got some time to figure out how to feed our daughter. She won’t come out eating solid foods, right?”

I laughed and shook my head. Fair enough.

“I’m going to hop in the shower real fast.” Andrew already had his cast wrapped in a plastic bag to keep it from getting wet.

While he was doing that, I started in on the dishes that had piled up in the sink over the past couple of days. Neither of us were clean freaks, to the say least, but I was realizing that having a kid was going to change a lot of things in regards to how I lived my life, and I figured doing the dishes was a safe place to start.

My phone vibrated in my pocket and I wiped my hand off on my jeans before pulling it out and checking the display: Dad.

“Hi, Dad.” I used my shoulder to hold my cell phone in place and continued doing the dishes.

“Well, if it isn’t my favorite son,” Dad said.

“Dad, I’m your only son, but thank you for the compliment.” I rolled my eyes but smiled to myself. Dad jokes, right out of the gate.

“Okay, my only and favorite son, how are you? Papi and I were just talking about coming up to visit you for Thanksgiving. It’s coming up pretty fast and we wanted to get our dates figured out.”

Shit, he was right. I’d been so focused on the first doctor’s appointment, I hadn’t really been paying attention to how quickly Thanksgiving was coming up. I still hadn’t told my dads about being pregnant. That was going to be interesting. The cat was firmly out of the bag with the Harts, and they were beyond excited. I was sure my dads would be too… sooner or later.
