“We’re still about ten miles from the cabin!” Ross yelled as we wove through the trees. Even burdened with the weight of both bags, he moved faster than me. “We have to find another car.”

I didn’t bother to ask where we would find a car in the middle of the forest, or what exactly he planned to do once we had. It took all of my effort just to keep my breathing under control as I struggled to match his pace. It seemed to help if I focused on something, so I kept my eyes glued to his broad shoulders. We moved quickly, widening the distance between us and the zombies we’d left behind. But it wasn’t long before my lungs felt like they were going to burst and a stitch began to gnaw at my side. I stumbled to a stop and doubled over, bracing my hands on my knees as I fought to catch my breath.
