Fallon

“What do you mean she left?” The newly crowned queen hissed, removing the intricate bone crown from her head and throwing it on the bed as if it were nothing. Her deep cyan eyes shooting daggers at the man standing on the balcony. “What the hell did you say to her, Ravi?”

“I spoke the truth about who Sapphira is to me, nothing more.”

The queen stalked closer, delicate gown swaying as she moved. “What truth?”

“I told Sapphira that we were destined to be together, and she panicked.” Ravi shrugged, scratching the back of his neck nervously, a frown on his face. “I might have been a little forward; for that, I must apologize, Fallon.”

“You’re kidding me, right? You told Sapphira – the jumpy, emotionally confused woman that knows nothing of Girtablilu society – that you are supposed to be together and that she has no choice in the matter?” Fallon was all but screeching, her face flushed with disbelieving wrath, hands balled at her sides. “Do you not know her at all, you fool?”

Ravi’s lip curled, baring his teeth. “Watch it, your majesty. I am not officially one of your subjects yet, and I may take offense to the way you are speaking to me.”

“Sting me, Deathstalker.” Fallon hissed back. “I don’t care if I offend you; I care only about Sapphira and her wellbeing. You cannot – let me repeat this – you cannot drop a bomb on her like that!” Golden energy sparked across her skin, crackling like deadly flames.

“I did not expect her to react the way she did – if I had, I would have been… sensitive in my delivery. However, I have seen the way you introduced her situation to her, Fallon. You were not much better in your approach.”

Fallon’s magic sputtered out, the djinn queen’s shoulders slumping forward. “You’re right. And that is how I know that what you’ve done is terrible – like colossally bad. We have to find her, Ravi. Before she does something stupid.” Her tone turned desperate, face full of somber urgency.

“Have faith in her, Fallon. She is stronger than you are giving her credit for – and smarter, too. Sapphira will work through this, and return, you will see.”

A knock at the door interrupted whatever the queen was about to say, and as she turned away from Ravi, Fallon thought she saw a flicker of fear cross his eyes. However, it was gone so fast, his face returning to calm, that she could be mistaken in thinking she had imagined it.

“Enter.” She called instead.

Elora stepped into the bedroom, eyes scanning the empty space before quickly settling on Fallon. The djinn bowed her head respectfully as her queen approached, an adoring smile creeping into place. “Sorry to interrupt, but the people wish to see their queen. It has also been noted that questions are being asked about the prince and the council's whereabouts.”

“I’ll be out in a minute, Elora. Thank you.” Fallon said softly, raising a hand and resting it on the woman’s cheek.
