CHAPTER THIRTEEN
It wasnât lost on Bo that Gabby didnât really respond to what heâd said in the truck regarding how he felt about her. Sheâd had all night to think of something to say after their conversation at his place and sheâd still chosen to avoid the conversation.
Now, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Heâd told her they didnât have to talk about it. Heâd given her an out. So why was he itching to make her say it out loud? Sheâd practically put him in limbo. Did she even care?
The smile on his face didnât represent the state of his heart. His mood had shifted to something he wasnât proud of and he didnât know if heâd be able to spend an entire day with a woman he was finally interested in beyond friendship.
Why did it have to be Gabby?
After they left the restaurant, a Mexican place that had seen better days, they wandered down the street toward some shops. He couldnât tell if Gabby just wanted to spend the extra time in Billings, or if this was habit.
Theyâd spent several trips doing this exact thing.
Bo shoved his hands in his pockets as they passed several couples or individuals spending their Friday shopping. The hustle and bustle of the city was so different from their quiet town. âA lot has changed since we came here a few years ago.â
âA few years? Has it really been that long?â
He glanced at her but she didnât meet his gaze. âYup. It had to be before you started dating Chris.â
Just the sound of the guyâs name set Bo on edge. What he wouldnât give to tie that man to one of his horses and watch him get dragged through town.
A little harsh?
Perhaps not so bad when he considered how hurt Gabby had been after their breakup.
Gabby bumped into him. âHe messaged me again⦠last night.â
Boâs jaw tightened. It was like Chris knew what theyâd been up to last night. No wonder Gabby wasnât committing to anything one way or the other. Sheesh, if he wanted to stand a chance, heâd have to step up his game.
Without thinking about the consequences, he slipped his hand into Gabbyâs and laced his fingers between hers. âShould we get another picture of our outing today?â
She didnât pull away from him. That was a good sign. But there was still something about the lines in her expression that told him she wasnât sure about his affection.
Dang it all!
Before heâd gone and spilled his guts to her, he had been able to touch her and hold her without her overthinking it. Now, all she would do was wonder if he should be touching her at all. He knew her well enough to know she wouldnât want to lead him on.
Bo couldnât even pull away because if he did, it would make the whole thing even more awkward. Instead, he kept his hand in hers as they wandered down the street, glancing into each shop window and occasionally going inside.
