“You didn’t,” I exclaimed in a hushed tone when he pulled up to Tropicana Field, Home of the Devil Rays. “Oh my god you did...Ray!” I shouted in excitement, losing my shit when I saw who they were playing.

He chuckled at my enthusiasm as he turned into the stadium parking lot. I was in such a daze that I barely remembered parking, Ray helping me out of the car or guiding me inside the stadium. Not even getting our bats since it was bat day registered to me.

Hell, I was practically floating by the time we got to our amazing front row seats. They were facing the third base side by the visiting team dugout. That’s when I got my next surprise. He had us leave early to get here in time to get autographs from the players.

My happy ass was like a big kid as me and my bat made a beeline to the Knights. Ray followed close behind laughing at my giddiness. Once our bats were littered with autographs from all my favorite players, we went to get some snacks then settled in our seats.

“You okay, Jo?” Ray asked.

I fixed him with a cheesy ass smile and nodded. “Okay? I’m amazing. I can’t believe I met the Alphabet Boys,” I said incredulously, still fangirling.

The Alphabet Boys were Amir Andrews, Mecca Broussard, and Seven Chambers. They were the new school bash brothers and meat of the Knights line-up. Batting third, fourth and fifth respectively. No base or fastball was safe if one of them was up at the plate and the others were on base.

Known for their speed, they had the ability to steal and hit the ball out of the park. They could also drive the ball deep with a line drive, often leaving the right and left fielders scrambling to pick up the ball to at least keep them away from home plate.

They were fine as hell too and incredibly sweet. They didn’t even let a hovering Ray intimidate them as they posed for pictures and hugged me. If this was a dream, I never wanted to wake up.

“I still can’t believe you did this for me. This is the best date ever.”

“When a beautiful woman I’m dating and trying to impress tells me that she prefers baseball over the sport her brother coaches for, I listened.

“I heard what she didn’t say when she told me the Knights were her favorite team, but she didn’t have a chance to go to a game this year before she left town. I couldn’t have that. Luckily, the Rays were playing them this weekend. I made a few calls and managed to get some decent seats,” he added with a wink.

I rolled my eyes. He knew these seats were more than just decent.

“I made it happen so I could put a cheesy ass smile on my Lil Baby’s face. Even if it meant watching her fawn over them lil ass niggas when she was supposed to be getting autographs,” he continued with his brow raised.
