Significant Operational Encounters

The following contains a selected number of guerrilla operations against the Japanese presence. These cover the entire island and range from 1943 until 1945. Most of the six guerrilla divisions are represented in these encounters. Several were a part of the invasion of eastern Mindanao by the American forces in 1945.51

The Kabacan Siege October 25, 1942

Kabacan, in the heart of Cotabato, was garrisoned by the Japanese in 1942. Early on the morning of October 25 the Japanese coming out of the garrison were ambushed by one company of guerrillas. The siege continued for fourteen days, with 68 of the 76 Japanese in the garrison killed. The garrison was about to fall when Japanese reinforcements arrived. With their ammunition supply diminished, the guerrillas were forced to withdraw.
