With the cleanup crew, I tried to hide. Well, I was hiding but it sucked to do.

My mother sat up at the front of the team, unknowing I stowed away. In the back, I hid myself in my snake form.

I tried to upkeep my invisible body, but I got too tired. I couldn’t afford the energy it drained from me right before going into a mission.

Dante needed my strength too. I already began to feed him mine as he began fighting. My snake rested and stilled underneath the seat I laid below.

Being in my hibernation sleep, it allowed me to keep myself energized. I stored it. Not that the trip would be long enough to fully feel refreshed, but it offered my partner and I a little more.

“I’ve already told you all, if Abigail Fields is there, shoot to kill.” My mother readied herself with the armor of a leader.

It stunned me to see her on the plane at all. She had been in retirement since I came into her life.

By the way she moved, I knew she hadn’t stopped. Her sharp skills were too mastered. There wasn’t a single pause as she transitioned from director to assassin.

“Those are our orders from the council. They wanted me to come to make sure it got done right this time. Abby has slipped through our fingers too much.”

“What has she done to deserve such a hard threat?” One of her men asked from his seat. The man was a brute from behind.

“The council doesn’t tell me why, Dominic. I just get our orders. I do as I’m told and train the next generation, just like you.” My mother placed her revolver into its holster on her hip.

Now that she said his name, I finally understood it was my self-defense teacher in front of me. Actually, I became aware of all my teachers being on this flight.

I had missed it from trying to rest, but it was true. My mother and all the staff of the school were on this jet.

My gut told me this wasn’t a normal thing, nor was it a coincidence. All of the people who trained us, were ready to do something that I couldn’t comprehend.

Why were all the leaders of our school here?

As the plane readied to land, I couldn’t help but feel more confused. There were assassins in the field, ones like my dad. They were who they usually called.

Why would they need the staff of the institution to go?

Didn’t it leave the school vulnerable?

It might be hidden by the same blood magic that made the Zevgos bond, but it wasn’t immune to being found. Maybe if one or two teachers were here, I’d understand. But this plane seated the twelve members that ran it.

Even the librarian.

The bump of the landing jostled me. I uncoiled myself and slithered to the front, making sure no one spotted the snake at their feet. They were all too busy looking forward as the jet came to a stop.

That’s when I noticed my mom holding a different gun.
