Colt was fucked. There was an old saying with his people that translated loosely into “Live hard and die horribly.” Yep. He did that—in spades. Hanging by his wrists like a glorified hunting kill, in piss-stained pants, suffocating both from within and because of the swarm of flies clogging his nose, he figured that even though Andz’gar hadn’t ordered his death, the fucker had gotten a two-fer.

“Wake up, demon,” a male said, both inside his head and out. “You’re not dead.”

Colt opened what he could of his eyes, and out of the sliver of a crack on his right eye, found the Dark Prince of the Hell Realm looking down at him. That didn’t convince him he wasn’t dead—on the contrary.

It proved the likelihood that he was.

Shayton snorted. “Honestly, demon. If shit could take a shit, it still wouldn’t look as shitty as you, but you’re not dead.” He leaned down as if to poke him and shoved his finger through his sternum, wiggling it between his ribs.

Colt gasped and lurched to the side, fell off whatever he’d been lying on, and crashed onto the polished marble floor. He didn’t mind the pain in his knees, or that his molars rattled. He was too busy being grateful to draw air into his lungs.

“See. Not dead,” the Dark Prince said. “You’re my guest until you’re well enough to head home, or until you want to head home. You can stay. That’s cool too.”

Colt sat back on his heels, the opulent suite spinning around him at a steady clip. He used the sliver of sight to take in the massive fireplace casting golden light across highly polished marble floors, the black satin sheets on a bed that could comfortably sleep ten, the bar station that rivaled the stock and selection of the RedRum.

All this for him? “You honor me, sire.”

“Meh. I owed the Watchers a win for the Viking getting tagged at my party. I hate owing anyone anything. Now, they can call me Even Steven.”

He waved his hand and headed for the door.

Shirtless and wearing a black-and-gold sarong tied low on slim hips, Colt saw what all the fuss was about. The Dark Prince possessed the resplendent beauty of the Heavens, the lean strength of a male that worked out on the regular, and that long black hair swishing across his mid-back was killer sexy.

He’d be one hell of a wild ride.

The Dark Prince threw his head back and laughed. “Man, I love daemons. One breath away from death and they’re still horny as fuck.”

“Maybe I should leave ye to it then, and come back.”

Colt tilted his head from where he ass-planted on the floor and caught the russet red hair of his favorite warrior. His heart proved to him that it was, in fact, still beating.

“Hey, Red. I didn’t know you were here.”

Brennus closed the distance between them and helped him to his feet. “I led the cavalry for yer rescue, but it seems I might not be the knight to win yer heart.
