I look at VDP backups as something that is regularly scheduled as a part of the nightly backup process. Snapshots are something like a one-off situation that you may only need for a short period of time and then can be deleted. Snapshots do take a little longer to be performed but not long enough that this should present a problem for daily operations.

One thing to remember when reverting a VM to a previously saved snapshot is that the VM will take a few minutes to reflect the change even though the vCenter or vSphere client says it is through. What you can expect is that the server will appear to be up but may be unresponsive to keyboard or mouse activity. Depending on the amount of information being changed, you may see the screen blank out one or more times until the VM is now fully running with the restored snapshot information.
