Saturday morning, Cruz woke up with his arm across Shanice’s waist. She lay curled on her side in the thin pink sleep shirt she’d worn to bed the night before. He could feel the warmth of her body on his inner arm and against his chest where her back rested against him.

The need to move his hand higher and fondle her breasts was almost unbearable, and he ached to press his hard dick against her plush ass and listen to her contented little moans as he grinded her into arousal. But he knew better. Two nights ago they’d both been angry after their “conversation,” and when they woke up the next morning she remained cool toward him. Last night she’d gone to bed before he did and hadn’t said goodnight or acknowledged him when he came in after her.

He hated to be that guy, the resistant jerk. In most ways, he wasn’t and tended to give Shanice anything she wanted. They seldom argued, but when it came to raising his son, he had certain boundaries he wouldn’t—couldn’t cross, and having someone who wasn’t family watching Alex before he reached school age, was one of them. He and Shanice needed to come to an understanding on the topic, particularly since they agreed they wanted to have more children.

His gaze lingered on her exposed arm. The back of her neck tempted him to kiss, and he knew if he pressed his nose he could get a good whiff of her fragrant skin, but he resisted the urge and instead listened to her even breathing in the morning quiet.

Then the door cracked open.

Alex marched over to the bed and tossed up Mr. Cuddles before climbing up after him. With the stuffed animal tucked under his right arm, he crawled over Cruz. Cruz winced as his son’s knees dug into his thighs, and he twisted slightly to avoid one of those knees bumping his morning wood. If he hadn’t done that, he’d be in a lot of pain right now because his son had no regard for his discomfort and wedged himself between his parents, turning toward his mother. Cruz felt his hard-on die a quick death.

“Well, good morning,” he said with some amusement.

“Good morning,” Alex mumbled into Mr. Cuddles’s face.

Shanice shifted and groaned. “That better not be Alex in the bed this early in the morning.”

Her husky morning voice stirred his blood, but his mini-me between them kept any other part of his anatomy from stirring.

The little boy giggled at the mock warning. “Morning, Mommy.”

“Good morning, sweet pea.” She reached back and patted his leg.

“Mommy, I’m hungry.”

“It’s too early to be hungry, baby,” Shanice mumbled.

“I’m very, very hungry,” Alex insisted.

“Mmm, okay. Give me a minute.”

“I can fix breakfast,” Cruz offered.

“No, I want Mommy to do it.” Alex pressed closer to his mother.

“I’ll take care of it. I just need to wake up.” Shanice yawned.

Seconds later, she rolled out of bed and trudged to the bathroom, and Alex closed his eyes, his arms wound tightly around the stuffed animal.
