PK: There is no definitive answer, but there are many theories. There is the fort theory, the place-of-worship theory, the mountain-castle theory (including the Gusuku castle of ancient Ryukyu legend), an underwater-grave theory, an idea that it might have been a quarry, and a pyramid theory, among the many explanations that have been suggested.

AA: Is there anything to indicate that continental sites have sunk in the past? Any proof that submergence can occur?
